There’s nothing to say here that one can’t figure out on his or her own. Basically, this is a blog meant for reviewing visual novels, most specifically OELVNs, while not only providing the positives but the negatives, as well. I’m just being honest and my words are as is, unedited for your viewing pleasure (or misery, take your pick).

New! March 2012! You can now check out VNR4 on Twitter.

Q: What are visual novels?

A: Read the Wikipedia entry about them. The term OELVN stands for Originally English Language Visual Novels, or some slight variation of that. In other words, they’re “Western” visual novels.

Q: Why are you reviewing English visual novels?

A: There aren’t many blogs dedicated to reviewing visual novels that aren’t mostly from Japan. Some visual novel review blogs will spotlight a couple of visual novels that are originally English, but the majority of their focus will be Asian visual novels. This site is here to fill that deficit. Instead of focusing on Japanese visual novels with a few nods towards OELVNs every once in a while, this site focuses on OELVNS with a few nods towards Japanese visual novels every once in a while.

Q: What’s up with the 4? Why not just be “Visual Novel Reviews”?

A: Because they’re reviews “4” you, and “4” everyone else. And, vnr4 sticks in people’s heads more than vnr. vnr is a little too plain. The honest reason, though? That’s a mystery that will stay a mystery.

Q: Hey, why are you reviewing stuff that isn’t a visual novel? You’re Visual Novel Reviews 4, aren’t you?

A: Don’t worry about it.

Q: Who are you exactly?

A: I don’t want to have who I am get in the way of these reviews. Think of me as a mystery (there’s that word again) reviewer who loves writing of all different kinds. No, I don’t claim to be a visual novel aficionado. I’m just a fan. My opinions aren’t the be-all-end-all of opinions, and you’re free to disagree with me. I write these reviews because I like the medium and reviewing things.

Q: What’s all of that in the banner? I know those people!

A: They’re from a variety of free character art resources. Check out the OELVN Wiki.

Q: Are you available for beta testing and private critiquing?

A: Possibly. Shoot me an email over at visualnr4 at gmail dot com or leave a comment somewhere. 🙂

Q: Can you review my visual novel or game and put it up on your site?

A: More than likely yes. Send an email to visualnr4 at gmail dot com.

Q: You haven’t updated in a while. Are you still around?

A: Sometimes, my real life becomes too busy to review regularly. If I haven’t written a post saying I’m gone, then yes, I’m still around. Send me an email if you want to talk about visual novels.

Q: How do I become an affiliate?

A: Send me an email (it’s been listed twice in this guide).

Not really the place to ask. Check the DN Poisoned post. One of the comments has a link to a guide. Enjoy, friend.

I’ve finally found a place that gives decent reviews about this stuff, whew! I’ve been reluctant to try them ever since I went through 3 crappy ones, maybe this site’ll help me get to some that are good.
